Vicky called this week I thought she wanted to see me for Christmas but instead she was calling to share her devastating news......she was just diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). IBC is a rare yet very aggressive type of breast cancer. She needed to start treatment right away ....she received her first dose of chemo this week and already the nausea has set in. I can't imagine how scared she must be. She'll need 5 months of chemo, surgery, radiation and more chemo. It is surreal.
Vicky had just recently gone back to school to study interior design and had taken a contract job that would offer her the flexibility to get through school. Unfortunately, contract jobs do not offer the same disability benefits. As an oncology nurse I have seen women battle this terrible disease and I can't believe this is happening to our dear friend. Since IBC is so aggressive the chemo she'll recieve is very toxic. The chemo will make her very fragile.
While most of us are getting ready to celebrate Christmas with our families and friends, Vicky has started her most difficult journey. I reach out to you Stingers to help one of our own. First I ask that you keep her in your prayers. May the Lord give her strength and peace during this very trying time. Vicky is a strong woman I know she'll make it through but she really needs our help now. Please consider donating to "Vicky's Angels Fund". This is a very difficult financial time for all of us I can't imagine what it may be like to battle cancer simultaneously. My hope is that we can provide financial support to help offset some of her expenses and give her one less thing to worry about.
